Ice Storm

Current Mood:Thrilled emoticon Thrilled

I’m finally back online after the big ice storm.  It hit us late Saturday night and our power went out early Sunday morning.  They said that about 50,000 people were without power.  It took them 4 days to get our power back on and some people are still waiting for power.  It was an experience that’s for sure.  Praise the Lord for gas heat or we would have frozen to death or had to find another place to stay. LOL  All the hotels (who had power) were booked up and then some.  So hubby went to the store for some  and such but everything was gone except some tiny little motif candles which we bought tons of.  We had to buy the big 5 gallon jugs of water to fill the toilet tanks up so we could still use them (we have a well which uses an ELECTRIC pump) It was like little house on the prairie at night.  ROTFL It was still pretty dark even with all the candles so we really couldn’t do much so we invented games to intertain us and the kids until bedtime,  told bible stories and just had fun talking.  It was a big realization how electronic stuff dominates our lives.  Peoplpe are always complaining that there’s just not enought time but most of it is spent sitting in front of computers, TV or video games in seperate rooms and then families just seem to drift apart that way.  Praise the Lord for Sabbath,  the one day of the week where we as a family, turn off the world for 24 hours and spend time with the Lord and our precious kids.  Most of our beautiful trees suffered terribly.  It looks like a tornado ripped through the place.  I loved the huge pine trees we had in our yard but most of them broke in half.  You can see the pictures below to see how much ice built up on the poor things.  They just couldn’t take the strain. Sigh.
